Corruption of the European Defense Industry and Ukrainian Conflict – A Political Detective in the Corridors of Power

The European war machine received a fresh impetus after the launch of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The war, its continuation and rumors of escalation are fueling militarization programs, significant increase in the defense fund and national spending, Strategic Compass, promotion of the defense industry’s investment appeal and its blatant greenwashing. Public policy, commerce and illegal arms trafficking, close-knit with non-transparent lobbying mechanisms, set the trajectory for the entire European economy, which is already experiencing rising imbalances.

The backlog for Europe is large; R&D funding is growing; the EU’s arms companies are breaking all export records. Europeans have to cut their spendings more and more, the economic slowdown and debt crisis have already squeezed the middle class, subsidies and social benefits are being slashed, all amid an epic battle among lobbyists seeking to center the economy around defense.

European manufacturers, primarily French, are committed to provide allies and beneficiaries with strategic advantages by using advocates of their interests at the heights of power and by pushing Germany to deplete its stockpiles of arms and ammunition, all while saving their own among other things. Germany is caught in the crossfire – the strong U.S. presence in lobbying organizations spins the flywheel of spending and is known to be the U.S. unshakable foothold. The mouthpieces of these forces are Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, known for his many personal meetings with, and his loyalty to, Soros and Executive Vice President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager, who are actually the NATO lobby leaders.

Ukraine is not only a reason to promote military alarmism, which is being cleverly monetized. Odesa, Ukraine, remains an important transit location where European arms giants seek to get a foothold and where long-standing criminal arms trafficking networks operate despite the limitations of the maritime corridor. The vicious system is headed by long-time Odesa mayor Trukhanov, an unsinkable mafia leader, a figure of international investigations and corruption scandals, with ties to the British conservatives.

Members of a once-exposed rival transit group, with financial and investment ties to Soros, used Latvian offshore networks created under the auspices of the current European Commissioner Dombrovskis. Those same financial institutions, influenced by former senior representatives of NATO and intelligence, covered up dark schemes – the Syrian armed opposition, the Houthi army, Syrian rebels and the overseer of Libyan finances, ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood. Those behind these dark schemes are seemingly untouchable. We found traces of suspicious cargoes from Romania were escorted by Odesa-linked players to war-torn Yemen in 2021.
